What causes heartburn? Definitions, causes and solutions of the problem

The cause of heartburn is reflux of stomach acid that enters in the esophagus and then inflames the lining. This leads to the familiar symptoms of heartburn as the throat or a burning feeling uncomfortable in the chest area, caused by eating or after a meal.

This painful and disagreeable ailment is experienced frequently by people in the Western Hemisphere. Not automatically mean that you are suffering from a medical condition, if a healthy person, you get a heartburn occasionally. However, if heartburn turns out to be recurrent, may lead to a problem acid reflux disease, also known as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease.)

GERD symptoms are not limited to the acidity. Also can be experienced as regurgitation, chest pain, asthma attacks, a hoarse voice and a dry cough, among others.

A fight heartburn, there are three main types of treatments that a patient has at his disposal. Drugs are the first category, whether prescription or nonprescription. Unfortunately, drugs only a short-term response and may also cause undesirable side effects. Examples for the relief of acid reflux are the H2 blockers, antacids and IBP. These products are focused on reducing the symptoms of GERD to balance or reduce production of stomach acid.

The second major category to address acid reflux is surgery. However, there are significant disadvantages to the second category. The surgery is intrusive nature, so may cause other health problems. This is just the physical aspect of heartburn (sphincter failure), without any action to get rid of operators hidden causes that are, in fact, at the root of the problem. Surgery aims to provide reinforcement of the sphincter muscle that seals the esophagus from the rest of the digestive system to stop stomach acid from getting back into the esophagus. When GERD begins it is common because the sphincter is not closing when it should, and does not block reflux of stomach acid into the esophageal cavity in the reverse direction.

The third option for patients heartburn is the holistic, all natural method.
