What are the specific tests for acid reflux do in a week-old baby in April?

What specific symptoms indicating that a week old child 4 might have acid reflux? I'm asking because I've been going back and forth to the pediatrician. She had the baby change formulas are lactose free and soy-based and the baby is still in pain. She shrink and complain with that sad voice and I know she is in pain. I called the Pedi emergecy the # and she is calling a perscription on baby Zantac for her tonight. Do not have to perform certain tests to acid reflux? Or this a common thing that babies perscribed.
